Viennese Evolution

This recital is inspired by the evolution of keyboard music in Vienna through the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It showcases, through works by Haydn to late Beethoven, the development of the fortepiano’s design. This recital poses the question: Was it the composer first or the instrument maker who were innovating, respectively, piano repertoire and piano design to new heights? Performing on a Viennese fortepiano, the audience will hear clearly both the colourful character inherent in the instrument and the many nuances apparent in the music, revealing to the audience a wide range of articulative and expressive capabilities.

Location: Auditorium of the Museum Catharijneconvent (Lange Nieuwstraat 38, 2512 PH Utrecht, Netherlands)
